Nic was very careful to school his face into unreadable lines. He did this not because he wanted to hide or obfuscate a truth, just that it was a truth. Inconvenient as it was, it was the truth. It was what made them monster. The only problem was that Remy saw it as an evil act. Where for vampires it was a matter of course. Of course Gates did not love the denizens of the city, no master loved each and every member of their court. It would make punishing them next to impossible, it is thought that vampires were monsters and inhuman, but the reality was that vampires usually kept a wall between themselves they insulate themselves from the mortal members. Even if they were not killed, the lycanthropes could die of old age it was a sad fact of life.
NIc was visibly uncomfortable with the question. This was deeper down the rabbit hold than he realy wanted to go, however If I am going to bond with these lycanthropes. To bring a closeness that they never had. “If he was to say know I will find a way to create a space for a meeting. Even if I have to send you to Chicago myself.”
Nic leaned back in his chair it could be viewed that he said his peace and was relaxing. “Be not so quick to assume aid from a source that has not committed to your cause young snake. ” Nic was very careful to school his face into unreadable lines. Remy knew Arnaud’s pack was not an assumption. Arnaud and Guillaume had been the craziest passers he knew growing up. They were all as thick as thieves and owed each other several debts that only friends would understand. He knew if he asked if he really asked Arnuad would do almost anything. Including raise hell if given the right reason. His brothers disappearance was such a reason and one Remy would gladly help him with.
NIc was visibly uncomfortable with the question. This was deeper down the rabbit hold than he realy wanted to go, however If I am going to bond with these lycanthropes. To bring a closeness that they never had.
“If I have to go to Chicago I know it will not be a pretty picture. They don’t play fair nor do they play nice. And if I have to play by their rules there will be a metric ton of blood.”
As his drink arrived Remy accepted it with a thanks. Waiting until the waiter left he raised his glass in thanks to Nicholas. “Laissez les bon temps rouler. I want to go to Chicago badly but I know that things will probably end badly if I do. By the way in case you don’t know Chicago is the reason I am back here.”
Remy clammed up as he realized he was speaking far too freely. While yes he was angry he wasn’t on as controlled of a boiling rage and he knew it was Nicholas’s doing. He clammed up tighter than a can of sardines and sipped his drink.

Nic nodded his understanding. He had heard things on the rumor mill as to why was without a city as well as spoken to gate on the subject when he first arrived. It was not something that Remy needed to know about however. So Nic kept mostly to himself. The only tidbit that he offered was somewhat vague in a way that vampires never really gave much away.
“I have hear whispers as to why you were set adrift, it was actually more and less than you think. Although I believe there is a chance that there was more to the story than you realized could this be possible?”
Nic had heard from the grapevine that Aeolas the new master of the city for Chicago as well as the Rex and the Kashyapa for Chicago had all bound and tied and set off for Louisiana and then went dark then the Rex and Master of the city both popped on the grid but the Kashyapa has remained dark for a extended period. Once he came back and from different sources all agree that he has been more benevolent in his talks since before he went dark. Of course Nic has Remy and his nest and so no one has come out to ask anything as Nic has yet to completely his boarders to anyone in that fashion.
“It has come to my attention that their Kashyapa, this Sabin Shaw has quite a power base, however he does not really has any power his far west. I have heard rumors that something has changed with him. perhaps it could be something that could be leveraged to give you some form or protection if you were to go to Chicago. Under the guise of meeting with him if you truly want to know what happened to your friend. It is just a thought.”
Nic had had to deal with many enemies as thought they were friends, he has many open business relations with the Fae, even though they have been on the brink of war for over seventy years. It would require Remy to decide what is more important his pride or the knowledge that he seeks.
"What could be rather useful to our intrest here, if if you were to go take a reading on the climate of Chicago, and their leaders, as I have heard some rumbling about their Rex and Kashyapa expanding westward. and it would be nice to have warning if it was something we needed to worry about."

“Definitely more and not much less. I was punished because I dared to take matters into my own hands. Gates like to control every little detail that could make him look bad. I can’t blame him but I can’t say I approve.” It wasn’t a joke but he could make light of the situation as it was firmly in his past for now. He would revisit when he had the chance as he always did late at night when he was alone and in his feelings. He had done the right thing he knew it in his bones. Just like he knew he was one hundred percent in the right now. He hoped he wouldn’t be making a different mistake in the same way.
He looked at the Master of the city. Really looked at the man who would be King of Southern California and for the first time. He was dark dangerous and entirely consumed in a passionate way with the things going on in his own mind. What he as offering was a chance to exact some vengeance do a good turn and claim some closure for himself. He wanted to think beyond that as to the why yet the tantalizing realization of having things so close at hand. He could feel it and yet he was more nervous than his first drop.
“It’s a thought I would be a fool to turn down. If that’s an option lets go for that as it would be a chance to kill two birds one stone.” His anger began to grow in proper measure to the chance of looking the catalyst to his exile in his eye and having his pound of flesh. It would be a great thing and a gift he knew he would owe Nicholas for many a year.

“Then you shall have your face to face, however I hope you can clearly think with you mind and not your heart when the time comes. As you go with the plan to get vengeance the only thing you will accomplish is the death of those you hold dear as well as inciting a war that will not come to pass.”
While the outcome of his trip was of little consequence to nic, he knew that if he went against the Kashyapa directly Remy would be killed as he was going alone, with no contingency of arms well behind enemy line, if his emotions ruled him Remy would be destroyed, however if Nic held Remy back he would never bow to his rule and accept his place in Nic’s court. As harsh as it might seem letting him go seek his answers, and if destruction was what Remy found Nic would take the nest and punish them for their leader’s failures. Of course he would not disclose this, as Nic offered him to bond two against his word. Sadly with his decline Nic will bond the entire nest. So if Remy failed and tried to incite a war then the nest would have to pay the price.
“While it seems that, you are ready, I caution you to be sure this is what you want, the plane will board in two hours. You will go alone, seek your answers along and most importantly hopefully bring the answers and not the fires of hell hot on your heels.”
Nic finished his drink, he would have the information as to what was this Sabin and Hiero up to. The Snake bowed most of the nest in the US but no one knows why and the Lion has pride after Pride gobbled up, an yet no one knows to what ends.

“Before I speak too quickly will you hold an act of self defense against me. I can keep my tongue so long as I am not attacked. I have lost my former home and land of my birth. My friend ha potentially lost his life. My family has been uprooted. The list of wrongs done me and mine because of ‘Chicago’ is almost infinite and yet so long as I am not attacked, belittled, further maligned I will keep the actions that I pray for a chance of committing in my head only.”
Pausing as he realized he was brain dumping on the Master of the city. Remy again paused. He was sharing far more of himself than he had in New Orleans with this Master. He wanted to think it was a newfound maturity. He wanted to so badly he almost accepted it without question. Yet to himself he wouldn’t lie. Looking at the now nearly invisble barely perceptible scarring across his exposed skin he knew that it was in great part due the harsh ‘lesson’ he ‘d learned at the hand, the black hand of Gates will.
“If I can not defend myself all the knowledge in the world will profit me nothing. And will only damn my Nest. If that’s the devil’s deal you are proposing I would choose to perhaps renegotiate. If you would have my allegiance no matter what then maybe you could send a lesser member of your court with the blessings of Chicago’s Master to make a polite request of those potentially involved.”

Nic leaned back in the chair, his drink refreshed, He reguarded the Kashyapa anew. Nic rolled his head there were many things he wanted to say, there were many different paths this conversation could go. It all depended on how far Remy wanted to take this. How much will he gamble, his wiffling added more content to the conversation but held the progress in arrested development. It was good that he wanted to find a reason to stay his hand, it was even better that he would think about the nest instead of a senseless vendetta.
“One must protect themselves in the wild. However that danger must be imminent and not perceived, if you feel someone insulted you and you start a bloodflow no I can not support that. If the slight is none physical then you can not return a physical response. If the threat is physical then by all means. This included you and any members who you are currently with.”
That was about the best he could do for the martially bent Snake King. The rules may seem stifling, however they provided much latitude. As long as the danger is not physical then physical attacks are off the board, however if the threat is physical then by all means. Gave his enough room to do the detective work that he needs without going to crack heads.
“Sadly a lesser member of my court would not be of any assistance to you as a kiss asking lycanthropes about a lycanthrope issue especially a lycanthrope that was not even from my city as host or departed. They would give misinformation at best or turn him away violently at works. No… Remy this would have to be done within your circles. Masters know that sometimes, some matters we can influence and sometimes a lycanthrope must be involved. We wished we could keep lycanthropes safe until we need your passions.”
There the ball sat first in his court to do with as he pleased.

Remy nodded pushing the images of sweet revenge out of his head. He would be going in cold but as he didn’t need to meet the Rex, the Kashayapa or any of the purported old guard of the city he could make his greeting of the Master and then straight to the wolves. It would help in keeping the flames of revenges passion in check. So long as no one came for him he wouldn’t have to pull the city down around his or anyone else’s ears. No wars need to be started or finished. A mission of mercy and information was all it had to be.
“Two hours? Well one hour and fifty minutes now. Does that mean I will be flying noncommercial or you already had this set up and I have to run through LAX?” Remy said smiling despite himself. He knew that he could be determined and a bit singleminded but he was trying to be better. In the end that’s all that counted no matter the catalyst the better was the important part.
Standing and chugging his drink he sat the rocks glass down on the provided coaster. Removing the retro-modded carbon polymer Beretta 92fs he’d taken to carrying. It taken three weeks to have it retromodded and serviceable. It was his baby now it wasn’t an M9 but it would do. Sadly all the carbon polymer in the world would not do for the firing pin and if he was going commercial it would need to stay.
“If this is a commercial flight sadly I can’t take Lucille here. Would you be so kind as to hold onto her until I get back?”

Nic just smiled that was his reply. Remy seemed to finally get the picture that he was being repeatedly shown. He would get the information. And if the information that he gathered was worth his time then he could decide what to do from there, figure a way to keep his people safe as well as himself. Nic had transportation to the airport already set up, he would have him airlifted to the airport which would leave him an hour to get aboard the plane.
Nic waved his hand to acknowledge the gun. He would take possession of it until Remy returned. Hopefully with news that would be fitting. “you may find they the other city is scrambling to stem the flow of illegal narcotics into the city. I believe the name is vitamin something or whatever. It won’t touch down here, I have made sure of it. But I leave it up to you if you feel it could net you something valuable for your assistance...” Nic Shrugged the street gangs trying to traffic the stuff met a very unceremonious end, the lycanthropes who wanted to pettle the garbage died slowly. Nic took great pains to keep it away from his city. If Remy could leverage that and his skill perhaps he could get something for it.

Remy sighed it pained him some to be leaving his baby behind but he knew it was more than a sidearm it was a symbol for what he would not do. He would not go with Parris Island in his eyes. He was not going to wage war that would not be brought to him first. He was going to find information. It was a mission of mercy of sorts as such he knew it was a good thing that he left his baby. Sighing again he removed the extra two clips he carried sitting those in the vampires hand. He could make the airport in no time flat. It’d be a sprint to the gate but he had nothing but time. Either he would be coming back with a question solved or he wouldn’t. In the end he had to believe that he would be returning or else he would be tempted too much to end things conclusively.
That option while viable could not be his mission. So it would not be. Remy smiled bitterly at the vampire. Nicholas. He realized he didn’t have to like him though his mind struggled to find reasons to do just that. He realized he didn’t have to like the man or anything he found important. He was the Master of the city that Remy called home. A certain amount of respect was inherent. He realized more now that good bad or ill that there was a debt to be paid and it began here. He was a man of honor always had been always would be whatever decision he would always pay his debts.
“When you approach my Nest in my absence the words to say are this ‘Children, everybody, here's what to do during war: In a time of destruction, create something. A poem. A parade. A community. A school. A vow. A moral principle. One peaceful moment.’ It is a bit much but if you approach them without speaking this where they can hear they will flee the city in droves they will scatter and no matter how much or soon I arrive afterwards there will be no returning for them.”
Nodding as if that was the word he looked about the space and turned to leave. In a few short hours he would be touching down behind enemy lines with a mission to complete. Something about the danger he would be in set his blood on fire. He was never more alive he cautioned himself that as alive as he felt he couldn’t and wouldn’t screw this up.

Nic nodded that was the only indication that the words that Remy had spoken had even filtered into his mind. Nic would only go the nest if he truly needed to, currently hs did not have any plan to do such, although as a pragmatic that could change at a moment’s notice. Walking to the safe Nic opened it, it was a simple hand dial combination on the safe nothing fancy, actually it was so not fancy that Nic had this safe since the late forties. But it would serve its purpose it would keep the gun. This was really the only thing the safe was every really used for. To store things that Nic found to be odious and not to be kept with his personal items. No one knew that Nic had a disdain for guns, oh he would use them to kill others especially fae, however he did find them disgusting when he was not using them for his own ends. That pretty much how he felt about most modern weapons.
Closing the door and spinning the knob he heard the tumblers go back into the locked position.
“If I have need of the nest I will be sure to do such.”
Nic thought to himself if remy had actually went to such trouble as to create a children’s saying as a code for his nest. Seemed like a waste, however as what had happened to the nest over the last year he guess that they were torn from their homes. And forced to leave their city. So perhaps it served some purpose that was beyond his current understanding of the group. Of course as time passed he would get to know them more, perhaps buried in what he knew it would make sense. Although to save time Nic would have his vampires ready to capture them all if he needed and that was a scramble code instead of a code green code. Ah well mortals will do mortal things.
