Lord smiled ignoring the less than subtle threat of the Master of City drinking lycanthrope blood in front of him. It was a nice little reminder that as long as he lived vampires preyed on the living. To someone not as understanding of the nature of a predator it would be unsettling. As it was it was merely a reminder. It made him smirk that the Master would think something as simple as this would rock his socks. “That would be a waste of your time and mine. I don’t do designer drugs whose whole goal is to make everyone a carrier of the lycanthrope strain. The drug in its purest form is laced with a mix of different lycanthrope strains as well as vampire contagion. Seems like a bad business model to me. No long money in that racket.”
Lord shrugged in response to a question that wasn’t asked. Going on he sat forward, “Look Mr. February, uh, uhm Nicholas, look you want to talk to me its obvious that you know how to reach out and contact me.” Lord allowed himself to stumble as he composed what he would say to either get through to the man or get on with the bloodletting it was obvious would make him happy. “I don’t know how things work with vampires I do my best as a businessman there isn’t any profit in screwing around with things you can’t figure the angles on. So I know you have a plan in the works lets get to that so we can get on with our night.”

Nicholas leaned back in his chair and regarded the lion. For the first time he was looking at someone who actually got him, he liked the lion, although it would not change the fact that if the lion proved himself a danger to the city he would not hesitate to kill him himself. However for the moment he could see himself enjoying his company.
“You are correct that there is nearly nothing long term for designer drugs. Although it could provide a nice amount of front capital while you set other plans in motion.”
Pointing two fingers up. To signal more drinks, for both of them. When the wait staff came up with his refresher. He nodded to Lord, “Anything he wants.” He watched the lion’s next move. This next few moments would define their relationship.
“The question is not if I can talk to you, it is what we would have to discuss when I contact you.” Nicholas took a few moments before he actually got into the meat of the conversation. The rest was what amounted to as preamble. Nicholas could see Lord’s whole life in his eyes, while not his literal life but his drives and ambitions. They share many the same it was just how they would reach the ends that was most beneficial was the question. Sitting the goblet down Nicholas leaned forward and spoke in low hushed tones.
“Since your field is that of business let us talk as business men. San Diego has that designer drug problem. I have heard reports as far as New York that the drug has spread quickly. While I care little of matters that plague other cities, I refuse to allow it to reach ours. What I would like for you to do is since you are not creating or distributing it make sure that it does not touch our streets. You do this and I will continue to keep the invaders from beating down our doors looking to remove you from the game. If the opportunity arises that someone tries to reach out to you to distribute or create, then forward that name to me, then you are free to return to your life, with the bonus of I am while not getting involved in your day to day, I can be a…friend of sorts.”
Nicholas sat back in his chair picking up his cup, watched as Lord worked the angles. While Nicholas was proposing a deal it was more than fair. He would help keep the foreign hit men off Lord’s door step. While Lord kept that drug out of Nicholas’s city. Both would be able to save energy and resources doing it this way, or both could spend extra energy doing the same tasks themselves, and eventually cross paths in a less amicable situation. From a business man’s point of view it would be almost too good to pass up.
“That is my angle, I actually enjoy your company and would like to see you do well, and for us to come to an alliance if not then at least an understanding. But before I can be sure I can like you I need to know if I can trust you.”
Nicholas waited and watched he could taste the truth in Lord’s words while the stumbling was a bit much, Nicholas can respect the acting and the gamesmanship of it. Lord had a confidence about him almost like.... Nicholas banished that thought away, but the whelp did have a predatory air about him, Lord wore his menace like a cloak while Nicholas wore it as a crown. They were much alike and as such they could see the angles. As people spoke, at least that was what Nicholas was seeing from Lord. He was looking for a weakness in Nicholas, sadly he was looking in the wrong places.

Lord unzipped his jacket relaxing visibly even as listening to Nicholas put him more on edge. This could be the start of a beautiful working relationship or the start of the end. Lord wasn’t dumb enough to not realize how momentous this situation was. As far as he knew he couldn’t remember a single rumor about a master of the City working with and not lording over a clan of lycanthropes. Smiling as Nicholas offered a drink. Taking a breath he looked towards Nicholas’s server. Not one he would pick especially for a VIP section she was too closed off. It was obvious she was trying really hard to be invisible. She was failing and her business casual dress made her stand out even more than if she had been dressed more fitting a late night venue. It made him want to ask a few questions of Nicholas but vampires were inscrutable.
Lord kept his smile as he addressed his hosts servant, “I’ll take a snifter of Hennessy Privilege.” As she moved to find the drink he ordered Lord spoke to Nicholas. “I am in. Anything else would be a one way trip to failure. Not to mention it would be really hard to fight a two-prong war on top of the three I am fighting now. If I can ask for one favor or maybe its an addendum to our arrangement, you have the dirt on everyone in your city. I can spend my free time hunting down the local Pride or keep making my own Pride; Or you can direct to where I should look to find the one that’s already here.”
As the waitress brought his drink Lord said, “Thank you,” as he raised his glass in toast to Nicholas. Waiting until she retreated Lord went on. “I appreciate the offer, Nicholas I really do I am looking forward to what we could do together. Maybe we should lay some of our cards on the table. I have a crew that should be on their way here in less than six minutes or so I should probably call them off or at least have them stand down so they don’t try to take me out of here by force. I just didn’t want to be rude and pull out my phone just yet.” What he didn’t say was that he didn’t until hearing Nicholas out have any intention of calling them off. He was no fool and if he wouldn’t be walking out of here at least wanted to bloody his kidnappers nose if he could.

Nicholas watched as Lord removed his jacket. The movements that he was making to get more comfortable meant that he was relaxing meaning either an extremely violent act was about to take place or Nicholas’s deal had truly been to good to pass up. Nicholas had hoped for the latter but as always was well prepared for the first option. Looking over the edge of onto the dancefloor at the mirror, Nicholas made a strange motion, he tapped his knuckles with his left hand. He then set back in his chair. Bunching the cloth, then replacing it he returned his attention to the lycanthrope.
“I am glad you decided to work with me.”
He thought of Sasha, she was the Regina in title for the city, Lord would be a great help to her, but to more importantly he would be helpful to Nicholas. So that he would be more than willing to get the two of them in the same place at the same time, he would enjoy watching the fire works if any were to fire off. It would be an interesting diversion at any rate, it had been a long time since he was able to enjoy watching lycanthropes interact.
“The current Regina is named Sasha, she had floated between the club and the outlying area. I can reach out to her and bring her here if you would like.”
Nicholas sat back on the chair, he was wondering when and if Lord would mention the three cars, that was rapidly approaching the club. They were at three blocks from the club, however the security had been watching them for two blocks.
“Well I was actually starting to worry, as your crew is only three blocks from here and if you had not said anything they would have to be removed. I could almost smell the gun oil from here. "

Lord smiled as if to say well what would you have me do? He slipped his phone out left handed and swiped in the code that would have his crew hold. In this day and age it was a foolish man woman or child that didn’t have contingencies in place should the unthinkable happen. Such as a boozy vampire swooping from the sky and kidnapping a body. It was as little as a few minutes ago an impossible happening in Lord’s life. Now he would have to cross that off his bucket list.
“Not really a choice now really was there?”
Smiling he allowed the wit that made him the man he was to shine through. If they were to be partners in any sort of business they would need a mutual respect. Nicholas couldn’t think him an idiot and he couldn’t think Nicholas out of touch. If either didn’t hold a respect for the other the venture ahead of them not only was doomed but one or both would end in the grave permanently. Lord was no fan of that idea.
“I can track her down if she has been here. A little help as for her description would be most appreciated just to have the one up on her a little… Not that it matters much. Her name is a good start how many Sasha’s could there be in LA and its suburbs?”
Lord shrugged slipping his phone back away. He knew what he was putting to Nicholas but he wouldn’t push any issue just yet.

Nicholas sat back as he pulled a small manila envelope from his briefcase. This could play out exactly the way that Nicholas had wanted. Lord personality being of a similar landscape was more than he had expected. It allowed him to be more and less of himself. He could see the predatory in Lord he did not bother trying to hide the monstrousness of his countence, that was something that he had hoped from the many of the groups. Nicholas knew that they could do many works together, the only problem was that he knew Lord would never truly trust him. They would be able to work only as long as their goals were to be align. For now that would have to be enough at least until the next phase of the plan were to come into focus.
Nicholas gave a gentle smile as he knew that to move the project that he was working on along a few steps the only effort that he had to expend was to draw the photo from the file that sat in the briefcase. Nicholas would do that easily. Nicholas would take an interest in the proceedings between the two lions, the strongest would take over, and that would be the one that Nicholas would have to work with.
“I can help with that obviously. She stood in this very room, however her scent was defused as she was standing amongst some serious wattage. ”
Nicholas took one of the photo’s from his briefcase. And passed it over to lord. Nicholas watched the other man’s response, he knew his next step, however he was curious to see the angle that Lord was trying to use. From what little he knew of Sasha she did not share power, but then again he had to be more forceful than he intended to get her to even consider standing alongside him. Nicholas held no illusions he knew he was a unbelievably massive prick at times. but his aims were more noble than what most would believe.
“I look forward to see what you plan to do once you found her, as she does not seem the type to share power. I had resigned to the fact that it would take a man who was both more and less that I could be even in ideal to reach her. So I wish you luck.”
Nicholas leaned back in his chair he figured that the next few days would be interesting to say the least and hopefully the blood would be limited, however no matter how it played out Nicholas would be able to twist it to add to his needs.

Lord didn’t bother hiding his appreciation as Nicholas whipped out the manila folder. He was sure there was one in the well-used, expertly crafted attache’ case regarding him as well as the high ranking members of his crew. He didn’t let that bother him he did take note that the file was a paper one. He supposed that was some throw back to Nicholas’s time as a human being. Of course he was also probably grasping at straws. Looking for some way to humanize Nicholas which he knew wasn’t anymore there than if someone tried to do the same for him. He was a predator born and died in the wool. The best thing to ever happen to him was being infected. The second best was being taken under the wing by the crazy lion who had wanted to rebuild his clan. He supposed he would have to ask the old lion about his reasons sooner or later. It was the one secret he had that no one who knew him would suspect he had allowed the lion who tried to dominate him live. No not live continue breathing. There was a difference especially as he had spent a good deal of money tracking down the lion.
Accepting the file he skimmed it quickly committing details to memory and handing it back. He wouldn’t take it with him no, what he needed he had. Her name, her face, and an idea as to her character was more than a leg up. In the end either they would hit it off and she would accept him as her Rex or not and that would be bad all around but nothing he couldn’t overcome.
“I’m sure you’ve had a lot of people standing in this room I can tell some of them even walked out of here.” He joked stating the obvious. “I suppose I should get going I have a lot of ears to put to the street and bushes to beat. Want to give me a number so I don’t have to fly in here every time we need to speak?” Rising to his feet he chugged the remaining shot savoring the fruity fire of the cognac. He’d had far better and yet he knew his level. He needed the cheaper stuff so he never forgot himself. Each drink was a reminder of where he would never go back to. He was aiming for Jupiter if he missed he would still be amongst the stars.

Nicholas stared into the lion's eyes, he saw a smile there, it was an appreciation for something done. It was also a first of such looks that Nicholas had seen since the purge. Nicholas knew at that moment which way he would lean if the situation would come up. He also knew that Lord would put a silver bullet in the front of his brain stem if the situation would call for it. Of Course Nicholas would not have it any other way. Watching As lord memorized to memorize every useful detail, Nicholas thought it could be easier to just email him the information of particular important, however he would not . just because there was no need nor desire to.
"There are many who come up, and like you many who leaves, although everyone who comes up are ultimately changed in one way or another."
Nicholas stated a simple truth. everyone who comes to this room has found themselves altered in some way. that was always the price to coming too close to power. those who had it changed those they came into contact with. it was not a boast more like a simple truth. He knew Lord knew the price of power, as well as changes that occur when power is wielded. taking the photo back he slide it back into the manila envelope, replacing it in the attache case, the cover looked like Italian leather, but the skin was something altogether different. a good curing made it look more normal than any would believe. Taking a small black lacquer business card from the case he passed it over to Lord.
"I have five numbers for you although I know not one of them is your personal number so if you could be so kind. "

Lord smiled as the realization that he was as watched as he thought he’d been was proven. His precautions seemed all the more necessary and in need of improving. Thank god no one knew that all the numbers spread over the city were simply links in a chain that all ended at the phone on his hip. A totally clean number that no one knew and none would. It was a really old system of a phone tree that played with the notion of an idea of someone being able to trace his location through the built in GPS of each phone. So if anyone called he was everywhere and nowhere all the while being somewhere different than where he was expected. "Those are all good numbers. They are all mine."
Slipping the card off the desk he used his QR scanner app. Scanning the card he hit the save button adding Nicholas to the many contacts in his phone. He would change his ring tone later. After all the master of the city deserved his own ringtone. His syncing app would do the rest so that if the number came through any of the phones it would be forwarded with the correct ringtone even as the information on the screens of each would simply be a series of numbers unreadable by anyone who didn’t know the numeric code needed to read the information. His information would be as safe as Lord was as he moved about the city. Though in light of the revelation that his paranoia had a place and was valid he might have to rethink things.
Lord had to admit that he liked the way Nicholas operated even if it was an invasion into his autonomy. He had to find the would be Regina and beat the bushes so as to have something worth upholding his end of things but that wouldn’t be too hard he suspected especially with his club almost ready. Sooner or later it would turn up. When it did he would track it back to its source and he felt a little bad for anyone involved when he did. He had no illusions that Nicholas would end them in a graphic yet relatively invisible way so as to send a message. He was confident as that was what he would do in Nicholas’s shoes. He would make sure his hands were clean of any verifiable proof but the streets were always watching so that would mean that there would be rumors that would turn into fact if left to teir own devices.

“Fair enough it seems as though we have reached an amicable end to our meeting then, I bid you a good evening.”
Nicholas watched as lord prepared to go, his mind was already working different angles as to what he needed, as well as what he would be willing to give up for the partnership to work as well as to what would be considered off limits. The extremes were easy enough to weight, As Nicholas moved more towards the median is where he began having to stop and think assigning values to what and who was really important to him. As he knew that it was only a matter of time before the drug was to come awash in his city. Although for the time being, he knew many masters were staying up during daylight hours trying to figure out what Nicholas was doing to keep the drug out of L.A.
Nicholas was under no illusions, he knew that he was not alone in brutality. He also knew he was not alone in the fact that he has killed before. So it was just a matter of time before someone decided it L.A was as good as any other to spread to. This was what Nicholas was preparing for. As such he was to spend a time assigning values to every member in his court, as he did so he looked back over the quarter wall at the crowd below. Looking back at Lord,
“You know once your club opens, perhaps my little establishment will have to trim hours.”
Nicholas smiled at his jest, he wanted lord to open up his business. It allowed him to be even more free in his movements as he would be able to weed out the poseurs as they would flood his club and Nicholas would be able to work his magic even more as Lord would draw the crowd of wish they could’s and has been’s as Nicholas’s connections kept the hottest of the hot in his club. As always with careful planning it would all work out the way he calculated.
